Every time I turn on this app, I see a woman's hea Every time I turn on this app, I see a woman's health expert on a podcast talking about the importance of women lifting heavy. Like 3 to 6 max rep and then failure. 

Friends that is heavy. 

Yes, it's 1000% important to build muscle mass as we age! 🔥

But the conversation lacks nuance. 

I have women showing up to my classes, peeing their leggings, unable to do 3 push-ups while trying to barbell back squat their 3 rep max because they know it's important to "lift heavy."

No one is talking about their pelvic floor. It's been glossed over. You can do all the creatine, red light therapy and cold plunges in the world, but if you're ignoring your pelvic floor it's not "longevity." 

Don't end up in diapers as a grandma. 

You want longevity? Train the whole system. Functional movement includes having a functional pelvic floor. 

That's why in every program I create, I include pelvic floor education. Yes including the brand new living room lift.

Think of your body like a tube of toothpaste. What happens when you squeeze the middle of the tube? The paste gets pushed down and out. Your organs are the paste. 🙃

This pattern of external oblique dominance (also called hourglass syndrome) is so common, especially when we suck our bellies in 24/7. It's associated with bladder leaks and prolapse as well as a low abdominal "pooch". I hate the term but it's a descriptor people get. 

This is a pattern. And we can change it. Start by learning to SEPARATE upper and lower abdominal activation. Sit tall with a neutral spine in a sturdy chair and try this yourself. You might be surprised to find how much your upper abs want to "help" or take over for the lower.

Your Canadian Pilates girl somehow transformed int Your Canadian Pilates girl somehow transformed into Princess Jasmine for one night while teaching in Qatar — and no, absolutely no one was more surprised than me. 

Them: “We loved your class! Hey, want to come to a local wedding tonight?”

Me, still sweating from teaching: “Ah—YES. Obviously.”

Them: “Do you have anything to wear?”

Me, confidently delusional: “I have my black matching legging set… maybe if I add earrings?”

Them, with the kindness of saints: “Do not worry. We will dress you.”

Friends… I was not prepared. This was the ladies’ Indian-themed henna party — women only — the moment when everyone unveils themselves and suddenly looks like they stepped out of a royal Bollywood dream sequence. I’m pretty sure my brain short-circuited. If glamour had a volume knob, these women turned it to 11 and then snapped it off.

Most expats never get to see this world. It was pure magic, and I felt so welcomed it almost made my mascara run (which would’ve been tragic because these women had me looking immaculate).

And in that room, surrounded by strangers who instantly felt like sisters — I was reminded that no matter where we come from, women have this unspoken, universal way of pulling each other in, lifting each other up, and adjusting each others crowns. ✨
